The Fiji government aims to target 100 percent of Fijians to get electricity access by 2026 and this is one of the projects that they need to achieve and believes that solar power is a keypart of that.

Minister for Public Works Ro Filipe Tuisawau highlighted this while officiating at the International Solar Alliance SolarX Startup Challenge Workshop that was held at Sheraton Resort.

Ro Filipe says some of their reform plans are to increase the rate of private sector participation and are currently conducting a diagnostic study in terms of the legal and regularity framework of electricity, taking into account the Electricity Act and other legislations or regulations and the responsibility of the Ministry in terms of Department of Energy and Energy Fiji Limited.

He says with this study they will be able to demarcate and ensure that there is a clear pathway that independent power produces.

He adds they are grateful to the International Solar Alliance for supporting the Ministry in terms of the World's first National Solar Unit that will support the National focal points and Fiji will be a good example for the rest of the world.

The Minister says with their association with ISA, they will be working towards more power solutions.
