Good news for soccer players in the Northern Division as the Fiji Football Association is setting up an academy worth $5.5 million in Korowiri, Labasa.

Fiji FA CEO Mohammed Yusuf says all elite athletes will be brought in to undergo specialised training as Fiji FA believes the Northern Division has the potential to produce many more Roy Krishna's.

He adds they hope to fully complete construction by March 2021 but as they are ahead of schedule, the academy will most probably officially open in January next year.

Yusuf says the academy will have two grounds, a futsal court, accommodation, offices, a big hall as well as a fully fledged program like the ones in Suva and Ba.

The CEO says FIFA has invested $4.6 million in the project while FIJI FA will be funding the rest.

Yusuf says the project was initiated by Fiji FA President Rajesh Patel in 2015 and construction work started in December last year.

Meanwhile, on his social media page Fiji Soccer Star Roy Krishna says more young talents will be nurtured and groomed through this initiative.

Krishna says Fiji can expect to see more Fijians making a name in the world of football.
