Families in Bua receive timely assistance

50 families in Lekutu, Nasarawaqa and nearby areas in Bua have each received $300 through Save the Children Australia and Save the Children Fiji in an effort to improve lives following the devastation caused by TC Yasa a few years ago and difficulties brought by the pandemic.

The Advisory Councillor of Lekutu District, Mohammed Farukh says farming communities will use this money to prepare their land and buy farming materials.

He says they are also grateful to Live & Learn who have provided about 200 families with farming tools and building materials.

Farukh says apart from this, Fiji Red Cross Society gave $100 to around 1,000 families in affected areas last year.

Save the Children Fiji and Ministry of Agriculture also organised a workshop recently to educate the communities on how they can use the funds to rebuild their lives.

Farukh adds some families still need help to rebuild their houses.
