The Fiji Women’s Crisis Centre is disappointed about the stance the Prime Minister and the Fijian Government have taken in the Israel-Palestine conflict which is vastly different from the stance the Prime Minister took a few days ago where he called for an end to the atrocities and the conflict without taking sides.

FWCC Coordinator Shamima Ali says they are calling on the people of Fiji to pray and advocate for peace and non-violence as nothing excuses or condones the atrocities that are being reported on either side.

Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka in a earlier statement had said that he stands with Israel who has the right to defend itself and her people.

Rabuka also mentioned that Fiji stands firmly with the State of Israel and affirms its unequivocal right to defend itself against such indiscriminate attacks, as permitted by international law.

Ali says the crisis has a devastating impact on everyone where many lives have been lost and while in wars, the most vulnerable are the women, girls and the elders.

She further says as part of the global feminist women’s movement they urge world leaders inclusive of women leaders and the United Nations to negotiate peace and non-violence and initiate peace talks with Israel and Palestine.

They are also urging world leaders not to take sides which may only encourage escalation of this war.

She adds their hearts and prayers are with those who are bearing the terrible heartbreaking fallout from this war.
