The Fiji Trade Union Congress has launched it’s campaign on the national minimum wage during the FTUC 50th Biennial Delegates Meeting.

The meeting is currently underway at the Tanoa Hotel in Nadi where there will also be a session on the national minimum wage.

Meanwhile Minister for Employment, Agni Deo Singh has reminded the FTUC of their commitment to upholding the values of solidarity, equality, and justice for all workers.

Singh says they should celebrate achievements, learn from their experiences, and chart a course for a future that is built on the principles of fairness, inclusivity, and respect.

Singh is urging them to renew their pledge to stand united, to advocate for the rights and welfare of workers, and to strive for a better and more equitable society for all.

He also says the restoration of workers rights is progressing well through the Employment Relations Act review and relevant policies.

He says this includes the terms and conditions for workers both in the private and public sectors.

Singh says during this conference, the election of national office bearers for the next biennial will be looked into, which is a pivotal moment in the democratic process.

The Minister also says the Fiji government is committed to working together with social partners to drive the reforms forward, amend laws and change policies to ensure freedom of association, freedom to assembly, freedom to organise, freedom to further the course of the union without fear. Singh further says a recent development is the visitation of the ILO Direct Contact Mission to Fiji this week and they have completed their investigative process in ensuring compliance to international standards.

He adds a report to this effect will be provided to the Fiji government at a later date and they are confident that it is going to paint a positive picture for Fiji.
