FTA wants school curriculum to be redesigned for all years

General Secretary, Paula Namanumanunitoga.

The Fijian Teachers Association says the Curriculum Advisory Services of the Ministry of Education should consult, get expert advice and redesign the curriculum for years 1 to 13.

General Secretary, Paula Namanumanunitoga says we cannot just make assumptions on the coverage this year as some students may have totally missed out on the worksheets and virtual learning program.

Namanumanunitoga says the Curriculum Advisory Services should sit and see all that has been missed this year and decide what curriculum is important to be disseminated to students from next year.

He says consultation is important for policymaking for education in the country.

FTA’s General Secretary says they have been contacted for a meeting with the Ministry of Education.

We have contacted Education Minister, Premila Kumar and Permanent Secretary for Education, Anjeela Jokhan for a response.

Kumar had highlighted last month that the ministry is looking at the option of a four-term school for next year, where the first term can be used to catch-up and revise complex/difficult concepts and topics.

Kumar had assured students and parents that the Ministry will make every possible effort to ensure that students are not unduly disadvantaged because of the prolonged school closure.
