Fijian Teachers Association General Secretary Paula Manumanunitoga

The Fijian Teachers Association General Secretary, Paula Manumanunitoga says they are strongly suggesting that the opening of schools be postponed by two weeks as everyone is worried about the escalation of COVID-19 cases.

Manumanunitoga says there is no need to rush and open the schools as they not have an idea whether the authorities have a strategy to control the escalation of cases.

He says they know a good percentage of Year 12 and 13 students have been fully vaccinated for COVID-19, but majority students including primary school students have not been vaccinated.

Classes for Year 8 to 13 will resume next Tuesday while face to face classes for Early Childhood Education to Year 7 will start from the 10th of January, 2022.

Manumanunitoga is also urging parents to get their children vaccinated if they fall under the eligible age group.

We have sent questions to the Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Education.
