Minister for Sugar Charan Jeath Singh says FSC had given evidence against the former FSC CEO, Abdul Khan, to FICAC some two years back, but the file had disappeared, however FICAC says all investigation materials, files and exhibits obtained during the investigations are safe and never went missing.

Singh says according to the information he has, there was a whole lot of investigation done.

Singh says he has been told by his peers that there was a resubmission of evidence done to FICAC with a whole set of files again and they have started the investigation.

The Minister says they do not want to prolong this case for too long.

Meanwhile, FICAC says the ongoing investigations against Khan was consequent to an intelligence report received by FICAC and not a complaint made by FSC.

They say FICAC is in the process of finalizing the investigations with the assistance of its international counterparts through the Office of Attorney General.

It says it appears that the Minister was not fully equipped with the true facts of the FICAC investigations and merely relying upon information he received from his officials and third parties.

They add FICAC never requested FSC to resubmit files and these claims are simply untrue.

FICAC says they believe that the new Minister was not fully apprised with true facts of the case when he made those statements and it is unfortunate that his office failed to verify the true status of the facts with FICAC through the appropriate channel.

Responding to the statement by FICAC, Singh says the Abdul Khan case is not a small case and it has been with FICAC for 3-years and he is calling on the FICAC personnel who conducted the investigation, not to dodge the issues.

He adds that FICAC needs to act on it and if not, they should remove themselves, so they can put better people in their place who will conduct good investigative work and bring justice.
