With the current situation of the COVID-19 pandemic being felt financially by unions around the world, the Fiji Rugby Union is looking at strengthening its relationship with World Rugby.

Speaking to Fiji Rugby, Chairman Francis Kean says the transformation journey at their organisation started during the Board’s first meeting with the team at Rugby House, a key message was the dire need to improve on their customer service to all FRU sponsors, unions, council members, World Rugby, Government, stakeholders and all their other customers.

He says the desire was to ensure that all their partners could call Rugby House, their rugby home.

Kean adds another challenge was harmonizing the various arms at FRU, Operations, Development, HPU, Finance and HR where this challenge was easily resolved through their steadfastness and support from World Rugby.

He says during their first meeting with World Rugby General Manager Oceania which was William Glenwright in 2015, he stated that they needed to trust this new Board.

Kean says their journey forward from that meeting although it was challenging and frustrating at times has been very fruitful with positive outcomes for Fiji Rugby.

Fiji Rugby was allocated $2.1 million for the preparation of the national Men’s and Women’s team for the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games in Japan and a further $4 million for overseas sporting tournaments.

With the Olympics likely to be held in July 2021, Fiji Rugby will be awaiting the National Budget announcement on any allocations for the preparation of the teams for the Tokyo Games.
