As some roads and bridges have been damaged due to Tropical Cyclone Rae, the Fiji Roads Authority will start emergency restoration works once the weather is favourable.

This comes as residents in Balevutu in Ba have raised concerns after the Balevutu Bridge was damaged due to flooding last night.

Resident Nilesh Kisun says as large vehicles will have difficulty in crossing the bridge, buses may not be able to transport students across the bridge.

He says if the bus is unable to cross the bridge, some students from Nukuloa Primary and High School may have to walk up to 6km to reach their homes or get to school.

Kisun is urging FRA to repair the bridge permanently as soon as possible as part of it always washes away every time it rains.

FRA says they are in the midst of assessing the road network and will start emergency restoration works once the weather is favourable.

They say similarly for the Northern Division, FRA along with contractors has been inspecting the road network, clearing debris and making road networks safe and accessible.
