The Fiji Roads Authority expects to begin major earth works near the Korosomo Slip in the Northern Division at midday tomorrow after they get the relevant approval from the landowners while people in Vanua Levu are strongly advised against travelling to the major slip at Korosomo Hill.

FRA's Acting CEO Kamal Prasad says their surveyors have marked out the alignments on the piece of land that will be used to re-align the road.

Prasad says their aim is to complete the re-aligned road in three weeks.

He adds they will have to make 800 metres of road to go around the slip area.

FRA has cordoned off the road with a 'Road Closed' sign.

The Fijian Government says people have been found sightseeing in the area, taking pictures and some were sitting right on the edge of the slip.

They say the slip is still active and can collapse at any time with rainfall continuing in the Northern Division, which is why they are urging people to stay clear of this area.

Meanwhile as of Friday, the Nabouwalu to Seaqaqa/Korovou Intersection is open to all traffic, the work on the alternative route from Korovou Road and Tabia Naduri Road is in progress and is open to traffic with 10 tonnes weight restriction.

The Nabouwalu to Daria Road is open to all traffic while work is in progress from Daria to Kubulau Road.

FRA says as of Friday, the Wailevu West Coast Road from Nabalebale to Kilaka Crossing is open to all traffic and from Kilaka to Kubulau is single lane access with 5 tonne weight restriction and 4WD due to approach washout at Kilaka Crossing.

They say the Transinsular Road from Savusavu to Waisali is open to all traffic. The Waisali to Lomaloma Slip is open for single lane access with 2 tonne weight restriction or 4WD vehicles only at the Lomaloma Slip.

The Korotasere - Saqani – Wainigadru Road is open to 4WD vehicles only while the Korotasere to Labasa via Sevaci, Nayarabale and Wainikoro Road is also open to 4WD vehicles only.
