The Fiji National University have signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Oceanic Health Providers Limited to establish a robust framework for collaboration, and fostering invaluable opportunities for students.

Speaking during the MOU signing at FNU Nasinu, FNU Vice Chancellor, Professor Unaisi Nabobo-Nababa says students will gain direct exposure to healthcare support services, allowing them to apply their theoretical knowledge in practical settings.

Prof. Baba says they deeply appreciate Oceania Health Providers Limited provision of an 'attachment allowance', recognising the value of this experience and supporting student participation.

The Vice-Chancellor says the MOU strengthens the connection between FNU's medical study programmes and Oceania Health Providers Limited and students across healthcare disciplines will benefit from the experience within Oceania Health Providers Limited facilities, under their rigorous occupational health and safety protocols.

She further says this MOU represents a shared belief in the power of collaboration between academia and industry, by working together, they will provide their students with the skills, knowledge, and experiences essential for success in the dynamic healthcare field, ultimately enhancing the well-being of our Fijian communities.

She adds this collaboration will create an invaluable learning experience, shaping the next generation of healthcare professionals and it will embrace the collaboration and work diligently to achieve shared goals in the healthcare sector.

Oceania Hospital CEO, Murgessan Pillay says explosive mutual interest will benefit the Oceania Hospital and FNU but will also motivate students to be eager in learning general health care, medical and specialised health care services.

Pillay says this MOU will outline their collaboration of framework and shared responsibility and conditions.

He says this project will serve as a platform for students to conduct research, gain experience and contribute to the employment of solutions and nurturing their learning journey.

He adds students on attachment will benefit from practical exposure supplemented by ongoing monitoring and support.
