Fiji National University is the first higher education institution in Fiji and the region to implement a tailor-made recycling programme.

FNU Head of School for Primary Education, College of Humanities and Education, Doctor Sofia Ali says the I Recycle Hub Program comes with comprehensive training on the best practices of recycling and various layers of data collection and evaluation through monitoring.

She says it also provides feedback and ways and areas of improvement as well as lessons learned.

Dr. Ali says through this program, the FNU will also be able to provide useful data for national and regional blueprints for waste management.

Dr. Ali adds the I Recycle Hub program will be able to contribute to a healthier climate and stakeholder support remains vital for recycling to become a mainstream practice.

Pacific Recycling Foundation Co-Founder and Waste Recyclers Fiji Ltd Director, Joseph Inoke Deo say through this program, FNU will also be able to provide useful data for national and regional blueprints for waste management.

Deo says their project will contribute to a healthier environment and inspire a sense of collective responsibility.

He adds it is effective partnerships such as this that will allow the Pacific Recycling Foundation and Waste Recyclers Fiji Limited to continue implementing recycling initiatives in various spaces to ensure we are able to reduce waste being pushed to landfill and dumpsites.
