FNPF to release land titles held prior to 2011

More than 1,000 Fiji National Provident Fund members who accessed their Housing Eligibility before 2011 are expected to receive their property titles as the Fund has begun its process.

FNPF says prior to the 2011 reforms, they placed a charge on properties for members who accessed their housing eligibility, however, this was revised in the FNPF Act 2011.

Chief Executive Officer Viliame Vodonaivalu says the Fund has published the names of members whose property titles are still in their custody.

He says more than 1,000 members’ property titles still remain with the Fund.

Vodanaivalu says they have tried to contact these members in the past but have not been successful because their contact details are no longer valid, and they no longer reside in the addresses they have on record.

He adds they have managed to return some but have exhausted all avenues in their attempts to reach the remaining title holders.

The CEO says they hope that by publishing their names, these members will come forward to claim their titles.

Vodonaivalu says eligible members are encouraged to apply for the return of their titles, and they advise all members to familiarize themselves with the requirements for the title release and to submit the necessary documentation to facilitate the release process.

He says a detailed list of members whose titles are currently in the Fund’s custody is available on the website and at Fund offices around the country.

Under the FNPF Act 2011, it is a criminal offence to provide false information or documents, and they urge all eligible members to engage in the process with honesty and integrity to avoid any legal consequences.
