Acting CEO, Vinitesh Kumar

The Fijian Competition and Consumer Commission says it has begun planning and strategizing it’s stringent enforcement activities to ensure the benefits delivered in the Revised Budget are passed on to every Fijian.

Acting CEO, Vinitesh Kumar says they are encouraging traders to act ethically and will not tolerate any trader acting in their own interests.

Kumar says they will investigate complaints made against any person or trader and will prosecute them to the full extent of the FCCC Act 2010 where these complaints can be substantiated.

He says announcements such as those that focus on reimbursements to the victims of the People’s Community Network's scam, and on price gouging in the real estate sector, have given FCCC an indication of areas of concern that will require particular focus.

The Fijian Competition and Consumer Commission has commended the efforts and initiatives taken by the Government towards easing the costs of living in Fiji, and towards addressing ongoing issues that require complex solutions and political will.

Kumar says the policy decisions announced in the Revised Budget addresses the rising costs of living currently being experienced by many Fijians.

He says the zero-rating of VAT on 21 everyday essentials, 16 of which are price-controlled by FCCC, will not only make these items more affordable, but will also give Fijians facing financial strife a sense of relief and comfort in knowing that these will help them through these hard times.
