If you are travelling between the Suva to Nausori corridor, you can expect at least 90 minutes peak hour delay due to road rehabilitation works.

Acting FRA CEO Kamal Prasad says they are unable to complete work on the Nokonoko Road, Grantham Road and Tubou Street due to the wet weather conditions.

He adds people can expect these delays to continue till end of April due to the forecasted rain.

Prasad says they are working day and night to complete the much needed work at the earliest opportunity and not wasting taxpayer fund on substandard workmanship.

He says the FRA’s plan to manoeuvre after a cyclone or flood, is to prioritize the main supply route ahead of secondary roads and then remainder of tributary roads.

Prasad adds FRA inspectors visit all roads in this sequence and he hopes this will make some sense as to why some roads are open to all traffic and the remainder aren’t.

He says he understands that after such events, people don’t have access to food or cash and they need to travel to town to gather these.

Prasad further says for the FRA, they have to be absolutely sure that cars, vans, buses and trucks can traverse the road before they allow movement adding if not the people may be stranded or worse, not return home in the state they left.

Prasad adds they don’t intend to take this risk.
