Our efforts to protect the environment and oceans are the dues we owe for our place on this planet.

This was the message by the Founder of Pacific Recycling Foundation, Amitesh Deo during the World Environment Day and World Oceans Day Roadside Campaign organised by Pacific Recycling Foundation and Waste Recyclers Fiji Limited today.

Deo says this campaign is not just a one-day event, it is a movement that aims to instil a sense of responsibility and urgency in everyone as we need to rethink our approach to waste and recycling, and it starts with each of us making small but significant changes in our daily lives.

He says the presence of so many young people at the campaign gives hope that the future of our environment is in capable hands and we must continue this momentum and work together to protect our beautiful planet for generations to come.

The PRF Founder further says the roadside campaign provides a platform for participants to voice their concerns about the root causes of environmental degradation, including individual, corporate, and political greed.

Around 400 people including students from Nakaikogo Primary School, Lelean Memorial School, Vunimono High School, Jai Narayan College, Dilkusha Girls School, Dilkusha Boys School, and Dilkusha High School lined up from the Koronivia Road Junction to the Rewa Bridge along the King's Highway and took part in the ‘Stand in Solidarity to Protect the Environment” event to allow voices, young and old to raise issues concerning the environment and the oceans.

These students also stood with their placards with special messages on what they will do and want the world to do to protect our environment and oceans.

The students also gathered in a safe space and spoke on the need to change the behaviour and mindset towards the way people are treating the environment and oceans.

As the campaign concluded, the collective effort and solidarity demonstrated by the participants set a powerful example for the rest of the country where they pledged to reconvene at the same location next year to further their advocacy for best waste management, recycling practices, and overall environmental sustainability.

The event was supported by partners such as Goodman Fielder, FMF, Hexagon Group of Hotels, Vivid Media, Hot Bread Kitchen, Professional Security Services, and Kidney Hub Medical Clinic.
