Education Minister Rosy Akbar has confirmed they are working to strengthen their Student Behaviour Policy to expel those students who are found guilty of bullying and extreme behaviour including assaulting other students.

There have been extreme cases of bullying reported to Police, the Education Ministry and Human Rights and Anti-Discrimination Commission in the past.

On the 3rd of this month, senior students of a Tailevu school aged between 16 and 18 years allegedly beat 14 junior students with a stick.

Police are still investigating this case.

Akbar says at the moment they are only counseling and suspending the students.

She adds students who are in boarding schools and are refusing to change their behaviour have been asked to leave and go to a school near their home so they can stay with their parents.

The Education Minister says expelling students should be the last option as they want students to go to school but unfortunately the behaviour of some students affects others as well.
