As Years 12 and 13 students return to school from tomorrow, Minister for Education Premila Kumar has urged students to let the Ministry know if they are experiencing any difficulties so that counselors, teachers or head of schools can assist them.

Kumar has also urged parents and guardians to ensure that children who are not feeling well do not come to school.

She had earlier said that they will be doing an assessment to better understand the needs of the students.

Kumar says teachers will be tasked with doing this assessment because there may be some students who will not be able to bring lunch to school or even afford other things such as bags or uniforms.

She says while Government is still paying for text books, tuition fees and bus fare, they will gauge if the students need other forms of assistance.

The Minister is also urging students who are not vaccinated to please get vaccinated for their safety and for the safety of others.

Kumar says vaccines are our best defence against COVID-19 and we have obtained 80% national vaccination target well before the anticipated date which has enabled them to get students back to school safely.

She says the Ministry of Education has worked closely with the Ministry of Health to make the school environment safe.

Kumar adds a COVID Safe protocol is now in place, which must be complied with by students, teachers, and ancillary staff.
