Education Minister, Premila Kumar discussed the proposal of having four school terms next year at a celebration of Swami Vivekananda College.

Kumar says the four terms is to allow recovery time for teachers and to space out learning and holidays to coincide with that of Australia and New Zealand.

SVC has also been commended by Kumar for its multiple achievements during the school’s celebration of its accomplishments.

SVC won 5 medals at the 2022 Coca Cola Games.

Kumar stressed the importance of sports in the holistic development of children.

She congratulated Year 13 student Tailasa on his Global Poetry Award and acknowledged the school for providing avenues for students to participate in such competitions.

While commending the Principal for being awarded the Best Global Principal 2022, the Minister says he has proven himself as an exemplary leader and an inspiration to all other Heads of Schools.

Kumar says it’s important to recognize the success of any school and such depends on its stakeholders and when they work together, progress and achievements will be seen.

She says education is bringing reality to the classroom because when our children leave school, they go into the real world and must be ready to adapt.

She also commended SVC for embarking on their journey towards e-learning which commenced a decade ago.

The Minister also says with technology, learning becomes easier with teachers not being too involved in just making and giving notes.

She further asked teachers to become more innovative and create a learning environment which suits the interests of students.

Kumar also says the Ministry is working with the Commonwealth of Learning and they intend to develop digital fluency training for teachers, which is expected to be rolled out early next year.
