EFL confirms significant damages to power lines

Energy Fiji Limited says with the current situation, they do not see a reason to de-energise the power system for the whole of Viti Levu.

It says if circumstances require, they de-energise the power system within their jurisdiction.

EFL says there has been significant damages to its power lines.

They have received reports of fallen power lines, fallen power poles and fallen trees on power lines in many areas.

EFL says a significant number of its employees are stranded at their homes due to floods and those that have been able to safely make it to work are systematically patrolling the power lines in different parts of the country.

Patrol teams will safely patrol the power lines, isolate the faulty portions for repair before the power lines are re-energised.

Energy Fiji Limited says two key challenges that they face with the power restoration process is restricted movement as Tropical Cyclone Harold passes through and the restrictions in movement and work process in light of COVID-19.

If you notice a broken or low lying power line, please immediately contact EFL on the emergency number 913.

EFL personnel at the EFL National Control Centre have the ability to switch off the power supply within seconds if they are informed of any hazardous or low lying power lines.
