Speeding remains a major concern for the Fiji Police Force, and the Director Traffic Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Mitieli Divuana is requesting drivers to plan their travel well ahead of time to avoid accidents.

SSP Divuana says with major events happening this weekend, drivers need to be prudent with their time management to avoid speeding.

He says they book drivers for speeding every day, and if people do not plan their time well, they will resort to speeding.

He says drivers who continue to disregard speed limits are selfish and inconsiderate of others.

SSP Divuana adds that drivers need to understand that speeding threatens everyone’s safety and that the consequences are more than just breaking the law.

The Director of Traffic says everyone can assist by speaking out against bad road behaviours.

He is reminding drivers that when they speed, they increase the risk of an accident as they have less time to react and control their vehicle.

He adds speeding also increases the severity of injuries in the event of an accident, as well as the trauma it causes to the families of the victims.
