200 residents of the Dogoru Settlement in Macuata, Vanua Levu, will benefit from the Nabekavu to Dogoru Mains Extension project, which is aimed at improving water infrastructure and access to reliable water services in the settlement.

The Water Authority of Fiji’s Executive team visited the site, where WAF Acting Chief Infrastructure Delivery Officer Jone Vunidaiga highlighted that the project will involve the construction of a new 90,000-liter storage reservoir, laying approximately 3.8 kilometres of new pipes from the existing Nabekavu reservoir to the pump station, a new booster pump, and laying approximately 2.3 kilometres of distribution main.

He says this project will benefit the residents of the Dogoru settlement, which is often impacted by dry seasons, providing them with reliable and clean drinking water throughout the year.

WAF says the $800,000 project is fully funded by the Fiji Government and is expected to take approximately 10 months to complete.

The WAF Executive team also visited the groundwater water source at Qarawalu, South of Taveuni.

These groundwork bores had collapsed, impacting piped water service residents in the area, and WAF is now looking for private sector engagement in resolving this long-standing issue.
