The Director CID is overseeing the conduct of the investigation into the case where a 58 year old man of Wailevu, Labasa allegedly ran over his own passenger which resulted in the death of the man on Nasikasika cane access road on 5th June this year.
Police spokesperson, Ana Naisoro confirms that the Director CID SSP Mesake Waqa who is in Labasa, is looking into this.
According to Police, a 50 year old farmer of Korotari, Labasa had allegedly hit the 58 year old suspect’s vehicle.
The suspect allegedly got off the vehicle with one of his passengers and allegedly threw things at the other driver's vehicle.
The suspect got back in the car and when he reversed his car he allegedly ran over his passenger resulting in his death.
Meanwhile, the 50 year old farmer of Korotari who had allegedly hit the suspect’s vehicle has already written to the Police Commissioner through his lawyer, Sushil Sharma requesting for a free, fair and independent investigation from police officers outside Labasa and for police to provide home security until the suspect is detained.
Sharma says his client’s main concern regarding the prime suspect is that he is powerful and wealthy, and is allegedly given special treatment which is not accorded to a normal poor Fijian who becomes a prime suspect in an alleged crime.
The lawyer claims that the suspect has been seen moving around freely in Labasa in his vehicle and engaging and instructing his associates and staff members although he has a sick sheet and is yet to be questioned by police.
