With the COVID-19 pandemic and the effects of Tropical Cyclone Harold affecting thousands of people in the nation, Digicel Fiji has taken up the role to provide relief supplies to members of the United Blind Persons of Fiji, St Minas Children’s Home in Nadi and people in Kadavu that were affected by the cyclone.

While handing over 50 food ration packs to the United Blind Persons of Fiji, Digicel Fiji CEO Farid Mohammed says this initiative is something he took up when he came to Fiji take up the CEO position but they were looking at which organisation to assist as many people are affected by this pandemic.

He says 100 cartons of food supplies will be taken to Kadavu this afternoon to assist those villagers that were severely affected by TC Harold.

Mohammed says they also visited St Minas Children’s Home in Nadi on Monday where they assisted them with food supplies and committed themselves to provide ration packs for the next couple of months.

Receiving the donation on behalf of the United Blind Persons of Fiji, Chairperson of the National Disability Awards, Rajnel Prasad says they have identified 120 to 150 of their members who need this assistance and the supplies will be given to them. He says these members are those that lost their jobs due to the COVID-19 pandemic and those living with family members in Viti Levu.

He says they are also looking to assist those members in the maritime areas and the north but they are trying to provide this assistance to them as soon as possible. He adds they will be visiting these members personally on Monday and hopes to complete their distribution on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, Hari Dayal & Sons (Pte) Ltd also donated 100kg of onions and 200kg of potatoes to the United Blind Persons of Fiji.
