The Vice Chancellor of the University of Fiji, Professor, Shaista Shameem says the purpose of their new campus is to decentralise higher education and allowing it to be more accessible for those students who had to travel long distances to attend classes.

The University of Fiji has officially opened its third campus in Ba today.

Professor Shameem says the Ba Campus will be used mainly for cutting-edge Bachelor of Medical Health Science Programme(BMHS) after the Fiji Higher Education Commission approved the BMHS programme through its Fiji Qualification Council.

She says they then took steps to re-design a building gifted by the Arya Pratinidhi Sabha, as a BMHS facility.

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Finance, Professor Biman Prasad was a Chief Guest for the opening of the campus and says opening of the campus will help in shaping minds and careers of the young men and women.

Professor Prasad says it is an occasion where students and the community of Ba and in particular Arya Pratinidhi Sabha of Fiji.

He says the government will always provide the support needed any university as they understand that the younger generations are the future of the nation and they would not do anything that will compromise with their studies.
