The first-ever gold medal win by the incredible sportswomen is a testament that our people with special abilities are more than capable of performing above and beyond human expectations when given the opportunity.

This has been highlighted by the Minister for Women, Children and Social Protection, Lynda Tabuya while congratulating the Fiji Deaf Women's 7s Team on their historic gold medal win at the 2024 Australian Deaf Games in Newcastle, Australia.

Tabuya also says that the announcement of team member Ethen Shute being awarded the Best Player of the Tournament will inspire other people living with special needs.

She says the team's outstanding performance is an excellent display of teamwork, perseverance, and firm determination to stamp their mark at the international competition.

Tabuya says this is a stark reminder for us not to look at their disability but rather embrace their unique abilities and provide them with an inclusive environment in which to excel.

The Minister for Women also acknowledged the team management for their tremendous support which paid off with the momentous win and states that the Ministry will continue to provide financial support to sporting contingents such as those attending international tournaments.
