Nemia Nadakuca - Dakuinuku Village Headman.

The Village Headman of Dakuinuku in Tailevu, Nemia Nadakuca says that the villagers continue to push forward as they face a lot of hardships brought about by COVID-19, and their aim is to get 100 percent vaccination rate in the village.

Nadakuca says villagers are selling coconuts, root crops and vegetables on the roadside to earn a living and just to be able to provide for their families.

Some villagers have told fijivillage it was better when they used to go and sell their produce in the Suva Market as they got much more returns but with the current containment zone due to COVID-19, they have been limited with what they can do.

They say they would love to take their produce and sell at the Logani border but this is hard as they have to pay a lot for transport and that is why most of them prefer to sell by the roadside.

The Village Headman says they hope all will get better in the near future and we beat COVID-19.

Nadakuca says they are living off the little things that they have at the moment, and it is quite difficult.

He says there are 233 villagers in Dakuinuku and 78 percent of them have received their first dose of the COVID vaccine.

Nadakuca also said that they have protocols in place and villagers are urged to follow them within the boundaries of their village.

He says that the Ministry of iTaukei Affairs have also done their awareness in the village by highlighting the importance of the vaccine.

Nadakuca says he has been calling on the rest of the villagers to get vaccinated and he will continue to do so.

He says that the Ministry of Health will come back to the village on the 19th of this month and this is when they aim to achieve the 100 percent vaccination rate.
