Women-led activist group, DIVA for Equality will start their Love Meal School Food Programme this week where they will be providing meals to about 200 students in 2 high-need Suva based schools, and are hoping people come forward to also assist other schools in the coming months.

Group founder Noelene Nabulivou says the schools have a high number of students from affected families from informal settlements, urban poor and public housing.

She says they believe the number of students who are finding it difficult to return to school is higher than 35,000 which is being reported by the Ministry of Education.

Nabulivou says they have started with their own funds and will do their part and are welcoming assistance in both cash and kind.

She adds they will be sourcing items such as tuna, chicken, dhal, rice, cassava, potatoes, cabbage, carrots, eggplants, saijan and onions.

Nabulivou also highlighted that as a women-led activist group, they do not want all the progress that they have made to be reversed because of the challenges these families and the country are facing.

She says they have also been assisting families in Kadavu and Qamea who have been affected by TC Harold and these people should also not be forgotten because of COVID-19.

Nabulivou says everyone can do something because our children need to know that we are ensuring the affected children are fine, not hungry or sad.

If you want to come forward to assist children needing lunch for school, please contact Noelene Nabulivou on 7648232.
