Minister of Women and Children, Mereseini Vuniwaqa and Save the Children Fiji CEO, Shairana Ali.

As children continue to be bullied and abused on social media platforms, Save the Children Fiji has launched their “I Am Digital” online safety campaign to educate young people on online safety.

Save the Children Fiji CEO, Shairana Ali says most of the children shared that they have not received in-depth education on engaging responsibly and safely online and there is a need for this campaign.

Ali says children also shared that they are reluctant to talk about issues faced online with their parents and guardians as they fear being disciplined, and they seek dialogue to find solutions to their issues.

Speaking at the launch, Minister of Women and Children, Mereseini Vuniwaqa says we should break the silence and talk to our children about issues that they face online.

to-use

Vuniwaqa says it is everyone’s responsibility to ensure our children are given proper guidance to be safe online and to report online risks to Police or the Online Safety Commission.

She adds we should take more parental responsibility in looking after our children and their welfare online.

Save the Children Fiji has partnered with Facebook and key partners to use this campaign in Fiji, Tonga, Samoa and Papua New Guinea.
