President Ratu Wiliame Katonivere

Crime prevention is everyone’s business, not only the Fiji Police Force or the Minister and Ministry of Home Affairs, but its responsibility lies with each of us.

Ratu Wiliame Katonivere made this statement during the opening of the 2023 Digicel Duavata Northern Crime Prevention Carnival.

The President says as the Tui Macuata, he is happy to be associated with the carnival and will always return home to see the developments and the work carried out by all those present at the carnival, especially the communities and the whole of Vanua Levu.

He says community policing is a shared duty between the police and the community to identify the challenges, problems and issues faced by the community and work collaboratively to address these accordingly.

He adds that reinvigorating the community is essential and the carnival is an example of strengthening the community.

The President says great improvements and assistance has been evident through the work that the community have done to assist in the work of the Fiji Police Force in Labasa and in community policing.

The Tui Macuata also acknowledged the Duavata Northern Crime Prevention Carnival Committee for handing over a Police caravan to the Acting Commissioner of Police at the Labasa Police Station in April.

He says these acts of support assist and better equip our Police Force to serve the communities better.

The Duavata Northern Crime Prevention Carnival will held for 9 days and will end next Saturday.
