Minister for Health and Medical Services Dr. Ifereimi Waqainabete says they are having consultations on the Public Health Protection Bill and regulations such as marketing of unhealthy food and non-alcoholic drinks to children.
He revealed this while closing a seminar organised in collaboration with the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) on “Sharing Project Experiences of Wellness System in Fiji” in Suva today.
He says as a nation, Fiji is having its fair share of the NCD crisis and a lot has also been done through the assistance of their partners to contain the problem.
Waqainabete added that NCDs is a huge problem and so is communicable diseases and they must be able to see that through mobilized resources they can fight both.
The Ambassador of Japan to Fiji, Masahiro Omura says JICA is providing technical cooperation to strengthen the capacity of government and medical institutions to oversee NCD prevention and countermeasures and to create a system for monitoring and evaluation.
