Congolese national Kiala Henry Lusaka who is charged for the murder of his wife has been granted bail by High Court Judge Justice Daniel Goundar.

Lusaka was married to an Australian national who worked for an international organisation in Fiji.

He accompanied his spouse to live with her and their children in Fiji while she worked as an expatriate.

On 23rd July 2019, Lusaka was arrested and charged for the murder of his spouse.

On 12th April, the trial began before Justice Vincent Perera but was halted half way through the prosecution case due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

It was heard in court that before the health restrictions were lifted Justice Perera’s employment contract expired and the trial was not concluded.

In his bail ruling today, Justice Daniel Goundar granted bail to Lusaka based on several conditions.

He ordered that Lusaka provide two sureties to sign a bail bond of $2,000 each and reside with one of his sureties at a fixed address and not to change his address without leave of the court.

Lusaka has also been ordered to surrender all his travelling documents and not to obtain any travelling documents while on bail.

He has also been told not to interfere with the prosecution witnesses.

The case will be called again on 23rd November.
