Concerns have been raised about the Housing Authority of Fiji not being able to correspond in a timely manner with the people who have shown interest and those that have paid money to get a housing lot.

This was highlighted by Seema Shandil who is the Chairperson of the three-member Public Inquiry Committee looking into the possible irregularities and fraudulent transactions concerning the allocation of lots by the Housing Authority of Fiji in the past 10 years.

Speaking from the Labasa Civic Centre, Shandil says when customers come and do an application for a lot, they expect some sort of communication to be done with them.

She says this does not happen in most of the cases.

Shandil says there have been questions also raised on the processes that have been used by the Housing Authority in terms of mortgaged properties that go on tender.

She says all these issues will then be presented so that they improve on providing their services.

A Labasa man said during the public inquiry that he applied for a lot 3 years ago but he did not receive any feedback.

He says he just wants to know whether his application is still with Housing Authority.

Another concerned man said he applied for a lot in Labasa but was offered a lot in Nadi.

He questioned why would he want to go to Nadi as he lives in Labasa and would like to get a lot there.
