The Navua Police has been dispatched to monitor the situation in the area and ensure people follow all the necessary protocols in place to help stop the spread of COVID-19 in the community.

This is after concerns were raised by a resident that a number of people are not following the COVID-19 protocols in place when doing their shopping in Navua Market, some second hand shops and even a major supermarket.

A 64-year-old woman has contacted us and revealed that people can be seen bumping into each other in close spaces, pushing each other and not following physical distancing.

The woman says she went to do her shopping yesterday but had to return home because of the number of people that were in close proximity in some shops.

She adds some people in Navua are behaving as if they are not even scared of the deadly virus.

The woman has also highlighted that no one can be seen implementing or monitoring the COVID guidelines in place.

The Acting Police Commissioner Rusiate Tudravu says they are trying their very best in the enforcement of these regulations but at the same time people need to take ownership of their actions.

Tudravu says these measures were not pulled out of thin air but have been medically proven to work as an effective means of stopping the spread of the virus.

He says everyone is aware of the situation that we are in as cases are rising and people have died from this virus.

Tudravu says the fact that people continue to gamble with their health and display no sense of care or love for their fellow Fijians is really concerning.

The Acting Police Commissioner says people have to get out of having the mindset of only doing the right thing when police are present.
