A concerned grandmother from Nanuku Settlement is raising the issue of parents being lazy and not doing their job in regards to sending their children to school.

Nanise Marama stated to fijivillage News that even though education is free now and school bus fares are subsidised, children are still not going to school.

Marama says when she asked some children, they have replied that they are not going to school because they do not have lunch.

She says this issue is very personal to her because her two grandchildren are affected by this as well.

The concerned grandmother says she has noticed that children are being left to themselves, noticing that some would only attend school once or twice a week.

She says from her home she can see these very same children being sent to the shops or taking out the rubbish.

Marama says her heart goes out to these children because as a parent it is their responsibility to care for them.

She adds if something is not done to deal with these issues now, these children will end up in a very bad place when they grow up.
