Minister for Defence, Inia Seruiratu says complaints arise against officers and the service they provide when officers go against everything they have been taught and decide to apply their own version of policing.

While speaking to the 176 Basic Recruits Course graduates at Nasova Grounds today, Seruiratu said the past weeks have not been good as far as policing image is concerned as there have been allegations against police officers abusing their power and authority.

He told the graduates to hold the values they have been taught close to their hearts and stick to what they have learnt as this is the only way they can have a long career with the force.

Seruiratu told the graduates that respect is earned by honesty, hard work and how they treat people and not by abusing their authority.

He has congratulated the graduates and has thanked the parents and guardians of the graduates for their support.

Awards:

1. Most Improved Recruit Constable was awarded to 30-year-old Marika Bina-tagi of Taveuni.

2. Dux of the course Award was given to 27-year-old Liliana Tara from Salevukoso in the Province of Macuata.

3. Baton of Honor Award was given to 23-year-old Uraia Tamana-Levu of Naiborebore in the Province of Tailevu.
