Despite the rising number of COVID-19 cases in the country and the increasing number of cases with unknown sources, the complacent attitude in the community continues as 36 people have been arrested in the last 24 hours for breaching the health restrictions and the curfew orders.

There have been worrying cases with many arrests relating to people from different households drinking alcohol together and there were also two cases of breaching the containment zones from Nadi to Lautoka.

Acting Police Commissioner, Rusiate Tudravu says the people arrested include five people under 17 years old. The 15 cases recorded in the Southern Division include a 35-year-old man who was arrested for loitering during curfew hours along the Raiwaqa area, five were arrested at Poorva Road in Makoi for being intoxicated as well as four people including two juveniles who all were found drinking in Tamavua-i-Wai.

Two cases concerning alcohol were also recorded at Marata Village in Wailoku while three people were arrested along the Raiwaqa area for drinking alcohol inside the Nasese bus.

The Western Division recorded eight cases where five people were found drinking alcohol at Navoci in Nadi while a 33-year-old man was found loitering along Field 40 in Lautoka.

13 people were arrested in the Eastern Division including 10 people who were found playing volleyball at Naikabula Settlement in Levuka and amongst those arrested were three juveniles. Three other cases for the social gathering were recorded in the Davuilevu area.

The Central and Northern Divisions recorded no cases.

Tudravu says as we are all gearing up for the lockdown period from 11pm tonight to 4am next Wednesday within the Suva-Nausori corridor, please be reminded not to move around unnecessarily and avoid social gatherings.
