Minister for Waterways and Environment, Dr Mahedra Reddy

With the COVID-19 restriction still in place for the country, the Ministry of Waterways and Environment will be celebrating the 2020 International Biodiversity Day by conducting a colouring competition for children of two age categories.

The two categories are ages 6-7 years and 8-10 years.

Minister for Waterways and Environment, Dr Mahedra Reddy while launching the week-long celebration commemorating the 2020 International Biodiversity Day says they had wanted to include schools this year, but because of the COVID-19 restrictions, students’ from this age groups will compete in a colouring competition.

Dr Reddy says the colouring poster represents life – it represents a future we want for our children and children’s children, where the environment is so serene and rich in biodiversity.

He adds we need to instil these images into our children’s mind by taking them to parks, camps, and events that promote environmental protection and resource conservation.

The colouring competition will have three winners from each category and winners will be given the opportunity for a biodiversity tour, to see some of the important biodiversity in Fiji.

The colouring poster can be found on the Ministry’s facebook page and their website, and children who wish to participate to send their entries before the 29th of this month.
