The People’s Coalition Government is holding firm and progressing as expected despite challenges.

This was the reassurance made by the Prime Minister, Sitiveni Rabuka while meeting with the Fijian Diaspora at Aldershot in Hampshire, England.

While addressing challenges such as the recent seizure of methamphetamine, which has an estimated street value of more than $2 billion, the Prime Minister says that the government is committed to working with relevant authorities to address this issue.

Rabuka says the government is maneuvering through these difficulties and delivering its service to the people.

Rabuka also says they must tell the truth, ensuring that the government delivers to the best of its abilities.

He also took the opportunity to update members of the diaspora about the government’s development plans and progress made over the past 17 months.

The Prime Minister says Fiji has been recovering from COVID-19 and the tourism industry and national airline assisted the government greatly.

He also acknowledged the contributions of the diaspora to the people through remittances, which reached $1 billion in 2022 while remittances continued to increase in 2023, they anticipate a further increase this year.

Aldershot is known as the home of the British Army which currently has 2000 active personnel from Fiji. In 1854, at the time of the Crimean War, Aldershot Garrison was established as the first permanent training camp for the British Army.
