The Ministry of Health is urging the public to destroy mosquito breeding sites by cleaning and clearing out containers filled with stagnant water, and clearing blocked drains and water-logged surroundings to control the mosquitoes that spread Dengue Fever. Following the recent heavy rain and flooding experienced in the western division as well as other parts of the country, the Ministry says that is focused on controlling and reducing Dengue Fever and recognizes the need for urgent, focused and sustained efforts to reduce the risk of Leptospirosis, Typhoid fever, Dengue fever, and Diarrheal Diseases (LTDD) outbreaks and to reduce the risk of severe outcomes in members in the community affected by LTDDs.

They say the Ministry has escalated community awareness and community mobilization for LTDDs, and awareness has been raised amongst clinicians for the early recognition and appropriate treatment of cases.

The Ministry has also stepped up efforts to strengthen and facilitate awareness programs, clean-up campaigns, and the implementation of environmental control measures in communities. The Ministry encourages any individual with fever and body aches, muscle pain, eye pain, abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting, and body rash to report immediately to your nearest health centre for assessment and treatment.
