Church services resume with COVID protocols strictly followed

Fijians returned to church today after five months of no services.

This is following the government allowing houses of worship to open with 70% capacity.

Most houses of worship have incorporated COVID-19 protocols to safeguard their members from the deadly virus.

Fijivillage visited some churches based around the Suva area and observed that houses of worship are taking these protocols seriously.

At the Centenary Church in Suva, church elders have the role of ensuring members are following COVID protocols.

At all entry points, church elders are taking down details of members and only those who are fully vaccinated are allowed inside the church.

QR check-in and check-out systems are also at every entry and exit point.

We also visited the Cathedral of the Sacred Heart Parish in Suva where protocols are being followed.

Church members from the same bubbles are allowed to sit in groups in the church, however, members from different bubbles are told to distance themselves for about 2 metres.

While some churches have opened their doors for indoor church services, others are still closed.

The Calvary Temple Church will be open next Sunday.

70% of seating capacity will only be allowed inside the church, members are required to wear face masks in church and 2 metre distancing is applied to members from different households.

All church members are required to have the careFIJI app and to turn on their Bluetooth while in church.
