Children from 10 villages in Navua benefit from newly commissioned school

Over 100 students from 10 villages in Navua will further benefit in their education with the commissioning of the new Ratu Simione Matanitobua College.

The $2.1 million new school will now cater for the children of Lobau, Wainadoi, Nabukavesi, Mau, Wailoaloa, Qilai, Vunisoco, Vacoko, Nakavu and Veivatuloa Villages.

Ratu Simione Matanitobua College is now equipped with an industrial arts workshop; a computer lab; a science lab and a home economics lab.

The United Arab Emirates Red Crescent Society funded the construction of the school under Government’s Fiji Schools Project post TC Winston with the construction of a library, school hall and more classrooms also in the pipeline.

While officiating that the opening and commissioning of he school, Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama conveyed his sincere appreciation to the UAE Red Crescent Society for its development efforts and assistance towards the new school.

Bainimarama says the education of Fijians of all ages has always been the government’s greatest priority.

He adds that every Fijian student must have access to an equally high standard of learning, no matter where they live, whether in a city or in a rural maritime community.

The new school will also serve the surrounding areas and stop students from having to travel to Suva to attend school every day.

Meanwhile, the UAE Red Crescent Society have embarked on a collaboration with government to construct three schools, one of which is Ratu Simione Matanitobua College.

The UAE Red Crescent Society Head of Delegation, Hamoud Aljneibi says these significant projects reflects their interest to support Fiji’s development efforts especially, in the education sector.

He says the assistance confirms their global mission of helping fellow mankind.

School Acting Principal Denzil Goundar thanked the UAE Red Crescent Society for its great assistance which will undoubtedly, provide a safe and secure learning environment for students in the area.

The school will accommodate two Year Nine streams and one Year 10 stream with a total school of 100 students and 11 teachers.
