Children are counted as the most vulnerable in our society - Tabuya

Children are counted as the most vulnerable in our society, the most removed from any essential services like healthcare.

This was stated by Minister for Women, Children and Social Protection, Lynda Tabuya at the Walk On Walk Strong Kids Fiji FUN Run and Zumba with Liti at Albert Park this morning to kick start their National Childhood Cancer Awareness Month.

Tabuya says it is up to us adults to take care and reach out to them, and she wants to thank WOWS Kids Fiji for being the only organisation in Fiji that is taking care of our children that live with cancer.

Also present at the event was Fiji Bati coach, Wise Kativerata who says he played Rugby League professionally and thought they had a hard life but these children go through more than they do.

Kativerata says he will make sure that the Rugby League program will promote WOWS Kids Fiji where ever they go.

WOWS Kids Fiji Team Leader, Mere Williams says today was all about launching childhood cancer awareness month, it has always been August because of Tae Kami, and her dream is how WOWS Kids Fiji was established.

Williams says this month they will be visiting business houses raising awareness on early signs and symptoms of childhood cancer. She says this is very important for caregivers of children, and not just their parents, siblings that sometimes get to look after children.

The Team Leader says they talk to them about the signs and symptoms of childhood cancer, what to do and where to go.

She wants to thank everyone that turned up at the event and due the unfavourable weather they were not able to do the walk but had a nice session with Zumba with Liti who has always been a great supporter of WOWS Kids Fiji over the years.

Williams adds if people want to help or donate they can contact them directly and they will be able to contact the families for a list of things that they need.
