Acting Commissioner of Police Juki Fong Chew

Acting Commissioner of Police Juki Fong Chew is urging people visiting nightclubs to know their limits and not to over intoxicate themselves that they do not even know what is happening around them.

In an interview with fijivillage News during the FM96 Big Night Out with Vodafone at Albert Park last night, Chew says if you are over intoxicated, your words or physical actions can sometimes portray a different image to other people that are beside you and this could lead to other commotions that they do not want to happen.

Chew says following the incident outside a Suva nightclub, which left six people hospitalised, their operational team met with the nightclub owner and its bouncers to address the matter.

Chew says they also visited all nightclubs and reassured the patrons within the venues of police presence, aiming to avoid a recurrence of incidents similar to the one that occurred last week in Suva.

He says the police were out in large numbers to ensure people could enjoy and welcome the New Year without any issues.

He further says while incidents can happen and can not always be prevented, even with a one-to-one police-to-public ratio, things will still happen.

Chew says people and the police must work together as security starts with oneself.

He adds he visited officers in the West and Suva and continues to thank them for the service they have rendered throughout 2024.
