Fiji Labour Party Leader, Mahendra Chaudhry is calling on Attorney General, Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum to step down pending the outcome of police investigations concerning allegations of his involvement in a bombing incident which allegedly resulted in the death of a woman in 1987.

The Party has also called on the Police to conclude their investigations in good time seeing that the case is over 4 months old.

Chaudhry says Sayed-Khaiyum should step down to enable credible investigations to be conducted in the matter and as the chief custodian of the law in the country, he should know better.

We have sent questions to Sayed-Khaiyum and Police Spokesperson, Ana Naisoro.

Police had confirmed in July this year that a complaint has been lodged against Sayed-Khaiyum at the Totogo Police Station however did not confirm as to who has lodged the complaint and the nature of the complaint.

According to a statement by the Fiji Indigenous People's Foundation, it was assisting Veronica Malani and her family with the lodging of the complaint that has to do with alleged human rights abuses.

Malani is alleging that Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum and his associates organised the making and detonation of home bombs around Viti Levu in order to injure and harm known Fijian targets sympathetic to the interim government, following the coups of May and September, 1987 by Sitiveni Rabuka.

When questioned in July, the Fiji Police Force had said it had started investigations by trying to locate the investigation files from their filing archives.

The Force had further said that initial information indicates that three people were charged for those alleged incidents and were subsequently dealt with in court.

Malani who is a former employee of the Land Transport Authority was charged by FICAC earlier this year.
