Two days of discussions amongst Pacific Islands Forum Leaders have reaffirmed the value and importance of talanoa in the Pacific Way, and represented an important first step towards re-uniting the Pacific family.

This was highlighted by Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama following a recent meeting with leaders of Pacific Islands Forum Secretariat member states.

In a statement, Bainimarama says together with the Prime Ministers of the Cook Islands and Samoa, he met with the Presidents of the Federated States of Micronesia, and the Republic of Palau, and the Special Envoy of the President of the Republic of the Marshall Islands, in Suva, to discuss a way forward through the current political impasse in the Pacific Islands Forum.

Bainimarama says he was also pleased that the Presidents of Nauru and Kiribati were able to hold discussions with the Members of the Micronesian Leaders that were in Fiji over the last two days.

The Prime Minister says they have established a reform package that contains commitments that deepen trust, and political cohesion across our region, and Fiji fully supports its adoption at the next Pacific Islands Forum that will be held from the 12th to 14th of next month in Suva.

Bainimarama says he is happy with the progress that has been made and the recognition shared among fellow leaders, that the Forum Family is strongest together.
