A charitable organisation, Caritas Fiji has been distributing food rations in Suva and food vouchers in Nadi and Lautoka to assist families who are in urgent need of assistance. This organisation is the social arm of the Catholic Church in Fiji.

Caritas Fiji says it is heart-wrenching to see the growing number of families in need as most of the recipients that receive assistance from them were working in the tourism industry and are now jobless.

It says these people share their stories with great emotion and showed gratitude by welcoming hospitality into their homes.

The organisation have provided assistance in Togomasi, Tunalia, Sabeto, and villages in the Tikina of Nadi.

They are also assisted by the Saint Vincent de Paul Group, their sister organisation in providing assistance in the lockdown areas of Korociri in Nadi with the help of volunteers and health workers.

The voucher distribution in Nadi and Lautoka commenced this week and a little note is attached to each food voucher or ration package saying “This little care package comes with love and blessings for you and your family during this COVID-19 pandemic.”

Caritas Fiji says it is grateful to its sponsor and also to individuals who generously donated to its appeal.

The Appeal is ongoing and bank account details for donations can be obtained from the Archdiocese of Suva website.
