Cancer Survivor, Sughanda Goswami is thankful that through all the hardships she faces, her family and friends have always lifted her spirit to help her recover from this deadly disease.

Speaking at the Bushells Fiji’s Biggest Morning Tea at the Motibhai and Company Limited office, Goswami says she was diagnosed with diffuse large cell lymphoma in 2019 after developing physical pain.

Goswami says she went to the hospital for a sick sheet and some pain medications and the doctors sent her for a blood test.

From her scan, they found out there was a cyst in her back hip.

She says the doctor assured her that it was a common procedure where fluid can start building up and forming a cyst.

She adds the cyst turned out to be a solid mass and a few days later, the doctor told her that the lump was cancerous and a sample was sent overseas for confirmation.

She says she felt that she was pushed off a cliff and could not understand why she had cancer because she had lived a healthy life.

Goswami says she underwent six chemo cycles at the CWM Hospital and the treatment was not pleasant because she lost weight, had lost her appetite and the normal day to day activities took so much effort.

She adds she started questioning whether she would walk again.

She says what kept her going was the love and support from family and friends.

The cancer survivor urges people living with this deadly disease to never give up and know that there are support services around such as the Fiji Cancer Society, who will be there for them when everyone starts to depart.

The morning tea today was attended by officials from the Health Ministry, business people and representatives from different companies.
