About 3,000 families who have been affected by COVID-19 have been assisted with food rations by the COVID-19 Humanitarian Response Centre in Navakai, Nadi.

The COVID-19 Humanitarian Response Centre is a collaborative effort of the TISI Sangam, FRIEND and Civil Society Organisation’s Alliance and opened its doors in July this year.

TISI Sangam President, Sadasivan Naicker says they are also looking at providing free medical services at the Centre.

He adds they are also continuing to give seedlings to farmers and training to people so that they become self-sufficient.

Naicker says those seeking assistance need to first qualify for the assistance where they are requested to provide details such as when they lost their jobs and their termination letters.

TISI Sangam has also spent more than $60,000 in providing free meals to students in almost 30 schools.

The Sangam President says they started by providing meals to about 9,000 students in 21 primary schools and 5 secondary schools.

They are now only providing meals to students in Western Division and Labasa.

Naicker says apart from their schools, they also provided meals to students in schools such as Ra Public School, Naria Primary School and Suva Ahmadiyya College.

He says they have been able to provide these meals through overseas and local donors who have been assisting them by providing them with food supplies and cash donations as well.

If you want to help TISI Sangam and the COVID-19 Humanitarian Response Centre to continue to provide assistance to families most affected by COVID-19, you can call Sadasivan Naicker on 9993044.
